“Are you deft with a soldering iron? Or perhaps you’re feeling a little punchy, future riveter? Do you simply have some extra time and the willingness to be put to work on one of Syzygryd’s many components? And … are you local to the San Francisco bay area?
sketch by Suzanne Forbes
Well, then, come on over to NIMBY and join our rush to the finish line! We’ve got snacks, soda and beer, and music to fuel you while you work. And, of course, plenty of good company.
Current tasks include copious riveting, soldering and electronics work. While skilled electricians are especially welcome for electron plumbing, new volunteers of all skill levels are still welcome. Those cubes gotta blink! We also need to get Syzygryd spewing some fire and blasting some music.
Official work days include:
• Sundays, Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, 1pm – midnight
• Tuesdays and Wednesdays 7pm – midnight.
Our shop is located at NIMBY, 8410 Amelia St, Oakland, CA, 94621.”

Photographer and illustrator Ben Heine marvelously combines his sketches and photographs in the ongoing series “Pencil vs. Camera!”
According to Ben, “The real idea came while I was watching television and writing a letter at the same time…. Reading my letter before putting it in the envelope, I saw in transparency the television behind the paper. I then realized it would be great to make something similar in a single image showing two different actions.” Each photo was illustrated, shot and edited by Ben.

Woo! Congrats, Erin!
“Silicon Valley startup Anybots is entering the increasingly competitive field “telepresence robot” market today with the release of its first robot. Telepresence robots work as stand-ins for people who operate them remotely.
A telepresence robot can, for example, tour a plant in China while the person controlling it follows along from their office in California. The tour guide could talk to the robot like they’re talking to the person on the other end and can soon forget they’re talking to a robot.”
