Lazy Ass Future Self

“Guess what? Our future self is pretty unreliable, too. He/she doesn’t think that the task in hand sounds like much fun, either, and he/she is just as likely to put it off as you are.

Actually, your future self is even more likely to put it off than you are because you’ve already established a pattern that putting off that important thing is okay.

If you want to actually succeed in life, stop relying on your future self to take care of things. Now.”

The scientific polls may in fact be biased, but this video does not demonstrate it. Assuming that the sampling is properly done, you don’t need large sample sizes to accurately measure the opinion of the U.S. as a whole. See article on sample sizes by Robert Niles for an explanation.

Straw poll participants are not randomly selected, and are _not_ representative of the population as a whole. I encourage everyone to read this article about how opinion polls work.

Create a Ron Paul Ad for the CNN/YouTube Debate!

The current Ron Paul Ad Competition has now turned into an incredible opportunity for one lucky producer!

CNN has requested for the campaign to submit a 30 second ad to be used as a bumper when going in to commercial during the November 28 CNN/YouTube Debate. The national campaign has asked us, the Ron Paul Grassroots Supporters, to be the ones to develop the ad to be shown!

Please let everyone know as quickly as possible because we don’t have much time. Here are the rules … READ THESE VERY CAREFULLY:

1. Ad must be exactly 30 seconds; no more, no less.
2. Ad will be shown for the FIRST TIME EVER PUBLICLY during the debate. Any video uploaded to YouTube for public viewing or accidentally placed on the Internet will be disqualified. Carefully guard your work and be sure to upload your video as
“private”
3. Ad must be available in both NTSC-ready format (for TV viewing) and smaller YouTube-size for review.
4. NO copyright violations. Must use original music, video and images, or need to have permission. If permission received, documentation MUST be provided for review.
5. Ads will be sent to us no later than Friday, November 23 at 8:00 AM Eastern Time, no exceptions.
6. Currently submit any questions or ads to [email protected]. I’m hoping to have another available option for submission very soon — see the Ron Paul Ad Competition channel for regular updates.

What happens after the ads are submitted?

* A group of marketing professionals will review the ads on Friday, November 23 and narrow down to a group of 4-6.
* The final videos will be sent to the national campaign for their review on Saturday, November 24 at 12:00 AM (Midnight) Eastern Time.
* The national campaign will select one (1) video of the 4-6 finalists to send to CNN on Monday, November 26 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
* The selected ad will be shown during the CNN/YouTube debate on November 28th!

Start moving everyone, it’s time to make this happen! If you have questions email me at [email protected], or visit the Ron Paul Ad Competition channel for more information.

Fair

I’m in favor of completely open borders. I think that our current border policy is the moral equivalent of apartheid, and deprives both immigrants and natives alike of their property rights and freedom of association.

However, I’m happy to see improvements to our border policy short of completely open borders.

The most common objections to immigrants include:

* immigrants will come to our country and commit crimes
* immigrants will bring nasty ideologies (Islam, socialism)
* immigrants will take advantage of the welfare system
* immigrants will vote themselves even more government largesse
* immigrants will take U.S. jobs

Here are changes to the immigration policy that I think address most of those fears:

* Require immigrants to post a $1 million bond. If the immigrant commits a crime or goes on welfare, the costs would be deducted from the immigration bond.
* Tax immigrants 5% of their annual income. Proceeds from the tax would go to communities in proportion to their immigrant population, to pay for immigrant services that are not covered by the bond (such as schools).
* Require immigrants to post an English proficiency/cultural knowledge bond. If, within 1 year of immigrating, they had not passed an English proficiency/cultural knowledge test, they would forfeit the bond.
* Require a 20 year wait before the immigrant can become a citizen and vote.

Any immigrants who met the above requirements would receive a green card. Such a card would allow them to work for any employer, and live any where in the U.S.
