A Minute a Day Makes Good Feelings Grow

A Minute a Day Makes Good Feelings Grow

Fine, I thought. I’ve used one-minute timings with children for reading and math for nine years now. If it works for them, I’m willing to try anything no matter how crazy it sounds. I’ve been to the Lands of Crazy and Depression and, while it’s fuel for writing, I didn’t like it in either place. What’s the worst that could happen? It wouldn’t work. But it was worth a try for two weeks. Each morning for the next two weeks I wrote for one minute as many self-positives as I could, anything I could think, remember, had been previously told, whether or not I felt it during that minute.

Bingo! For the next two weeks, my good feelings ranged from seven a day to forty and the bad feelings dropped from a high of seven on the first day to a low of zero – staying between zero and two. The negative thoughts went from 75 the first day to three! Happy birthday, Robert! I shall stop looking for reasons to argue, stop trying to sabotage my marriage.

Ta-dah!

Burning Man update

The current plan is to leave on Sunday (8/24) at 1:00 p.m, and return on Monday (9/1), with a possible stayover in Reno.

I’ll be camping with the pseudofeds of the playagon at 9:30 and Esplanade.

If you’d like to meet up, let me know where you will be camping! I’d love to meet up with you I’m there.

You ain’t got a thing, if you ain’t got that swing

capitalism-yeah invited me to go with her and her friend Gretchen last night to Redwood City Swing. It was blast!

We took the beginner drop-in class, which they offer every Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. Both instructors were very competent, helpful and on the ball. Afterwards, Gretchen and capitalism-yeah took turns dancing with me. After they left, two women asked me to dance. There were probably 60 – 80 people there overall. They also served snacks (strawberries, chips, cookies), and had several coolers of water set up.

Downsides: the music is loud (though there are areas where it is much quieter, and you can talk), and it can get stifling hot (no a/c).

Thanks capitalism-yeah!

Burning Man bike?

So I’m going to Burning Man in two weeks. Anyone have a bike they’d be willing to sell for cheap?

First Annual Seasteading Conference – October 10th, 2008

The Seasteading Institute has announced the first annual seasteading conference. It will be held October 10th, 2008 at the Embassy Suites in Burlingame, CA. The cost is $195.00, which includes food, but not a hotel room.

This will be a working conference. As the wiki states:

This is not a “sit around and listen to a few presenters” sort of conference. Instead, we’re going to have a bunch of small workshops where groups brainstorm about solutions to some of the challenges we face, research those solutions, and come up w/ recommendations. If there is a particular area that you’d like to lead a workshop / session on, please note it. Also feel free to add workshop topics.

In my opinion, seasteading represents the single best strategy for increasing human freedom in the near term future. So if you’d like to help make it happen, come join us! And please spread the word to any group that you think would be interested.
