Call Iowa (for Ron Paul)

Call Iowa!

Exciting news from Iowa! Many of you across the country have been asking how you can help in Iowa, and we’re ready to take you up on it in a big way. We are officially launching our Call Iowa program. We are asking for volunteers from Iowa and across the country to call Iowans and spread the word about the Straw Poll. We are excited about this opportunity to have Ron Paul supporters converse on a one-to-one basis with Iowans likely to be interested in attending the Straw Poll.

The Call Iowa program is a great chance to volunteer with the official campaign and really be a part of the action! Many of you have already expressed interest in a program like this and we are grateful and excited for your help.

We invite you to contact us if you are interested in volunteering to call Iowans. You are also welcome to contact us on behalf of your group, if you have several local volunteers who are interested in working together on this. If you are interested in volunteering to call Iowans here’s what to do:

Send an e-mail to [email protected] providing us with the following information:

* Your Name (ex. John Smith)
* Your e-mail address (ex. ronpaul @ voteforronpaul.com)
* How many people you are responding for (ex. 12). Please enter “1″ if you are volunteering alone on this.
* Approximately how many calls you think you and your group can reasonably handle in about one week’s time. (ex. 150)

Mail Iowa (for Ron Paul)

We’ve had a great response to our Call Iowa program, and while we still need your help making phone calls, we have another option available now for people interested in volunteering: The Mail Iowa Program!

We are asking for volunteers from Iowa and across the country to write letters to Iowans to spread the word about the Straw Poll. This is a great way for us to personally contact all the voters that we can’t reach by phone, and really display how passionately our supporters believe in Congressman Ron Paul.

Albert Ellis dead

Albert Ellis, whose innovative straight-talk approach to psychotherapy made him one of the most influential and provocative figures in modern psychology, died yesterday at his home above the institute he founded in Manhattan. He was 93.

This anecdote was particularly helpful to me:

But at 19 he was painfully shy and eager to change his behavior. In one exercise he staked out a bench in a park near his home, determined to talk to every woman who sat there alone. In one month, he said, he approached 130 women.

“Thirty walked away immediately,” he said in the Times article. “I talked with the other 100, for the first time in my life, no matter how anxious I was. Nobody vomited and ran away. Nobody called the cops.”

Though he got only one date as a result, his shyness disappeared, he said. He similarly overcame a fear of speaking in public by making himself do just that, over and over. He became an accomplished public speaker.

Adopt an Iowan (for Ron Paul)

The purpose of this effort is to collect funds and buy tickets for people in Iowa who want to go to the straw poll, but do not have the funds to pay for the $35.00 ticket. You can find information regarding the Iowa Straw Poll here.

“For Sale By Owner” homes sell for as much as MLS homes

Via flutterby

“A provocative new study shows that sellers who joined a for-sale-by-owner (FSBO) Web site got at least as much for their homes as sellers who did their real estate business through the use of an agent and the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). Houses sold through the MLS were more likely to sell faster.

The recent study shows that the FSBO sellers ended up with a significantly enhanced net sale price because they didn’t have to pay the brokerage commission that real estate agents charge sellers, generally six percent of a house’s sale price — $12,000 for a $200,000 home.

There was no gain in price in selling a home through MLS vs. by owner, at least when it comes to Madison, Wis., during the relatively strong housing market in the period analyzed, the study concludes. (Though the research suggests national implications, the findings, at this point, cannot be generalized beyond the specific Madison housing market.)

While the MLS does not deliver a higher price, it does offer a higher probability of a quick sale, within 60 or 90 days. In addition, roughly 20 percent of FSBO listings end up re-listing in the MLS, which translates into a longer time on the market, roughly 68 more days. Thus, one of the advantages of MLS is a shorter time to sale, which translates into savings (on mortgage, taxes and insurance).”
