In wartime, a nation needs manpower. People to tote supplies, man the ships, manufacture the weapons, soldiers to fight.

Thus, blockading allied troops, and supplying enemy troops are both considered acts of war.

During WWII, Mexico provided 100,000 workers to the U.S. to alleviate labor shortages in the fields and railways. If Germany had tried to prevent those Mexicans from working in the U.S., it would've been considered an act of war.

In peacetime, a nation needs manpower. People to pick the vegetables, man the shops, manufacture the cars, guards to protect.

Yet, in peacetime, we blockade ourselves from millions of would-be Mexican workers.

To paraphrase Henry George, why do we do to ourselves in time of peace, what our enemies seek to do to us in time of war?
